May is Lupus Awareness Month and the Lupus Foundation of America held its National Butterfly Gala at the Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. Board Member Lynnore Thames attended the event which honored Ted Turner, Chairman, Turner Enterprises, Senator Daniel K. Inouye (HI), Human Genome Sciences and GlaxoSmithKline for their support and contributions to supporting the millions of people worldwide affected by lupus. Hosted by CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, the event featured performances by Julian Lennon and James Scott Cook, who donated proceeds of their hit song “Lucy” to the Lucy Vodden Research Grant. The Grant will help fund lupus research to advance the science and medicine of lupus and finding a cure.
