BWSF & USTA MS NJTL Celebrate Juneteenth at the Germantown Cricket Club

Celebrating Juneteenth at the Germantown Cricket Club (GCC) was like a tennis family reunion as Black Women in Sport Foundation President Tina Sloan Green and Husband Frank Green, Jr., reunited with lots of friends. Participants had fun on the tennis courts and off. The United States Tennis Association Middle States (USTA MS) gave out great swag to the youth and adults. The keynote speaker motivated the audience. The vendors had great food and beautiful cultural merchandise. The live music had toes tapping. Sponsor Dunkin’ (Donuts) handed out sweet treats to everyone and prizes to those who played Dunkin’ games. Dunkin’ mascot Cuppy got in on the fun.

Germantown Cricket Club (GCC) organized this annual Juneteenth celebration. This event focused on local youth, expansion, and inclusion at the forefront.  “It is our honor to open up the Club grounds to the public for - this free event - a day to celebrate Black life and recognize the contributions of local Black artists,
performers, athletes, vendors, chefs, and other community members, with a day of music, entertainment, food and — our favorite — tennis,”
said Friends of GCC.

There was a free youth/teen tennis clinic scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m.  Then, at 3 p.m., there was a free adult round robin and white attire was not required.

Kudos to Renee Bridges, the staff and volunteers of The United States Tennis Association, National Junior Tennis League (USTA/NJTL), USTA Middle States, and the Germantown Cricket Club (GCC) on hosting an awesome Juneteenth Celebration! The FREE event was presented by GCC on Monday, June 19, 2023 from 12Noon - 5PM, GCC, 411 Manheim St., Philadelphia, PA 19144.
