    Black Women in Sport Foundation

    Established in 1992, the Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the involvement of black women and girls in all aspects of sport, including athletics, coaching and administration. BWSF’s work, however, is not limited to black women and girls, enrolling girls and boys in programs conducted throughout the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. More>>

    Since its inception, the Black Women in Sport Foundation (BWSF) has offered educational and athletic instruction to girls, with a particular focus on those attending schools located in disenfranchised neighborhoods in the Philadelphia area. While fencing, tennis, lacrosse, golf, soccer and softball are areas of specialization, they are not the only sports utilized in our programs. More>>

    Myrtle Leary Thompson Koger - Educator & Lover of Tennis

    Myrtle Leary Thompson Koger, the daughter of the late Annie Mitchell Leary was born May 12, 1926 in Somerset, Pa. At an early age, Myrtle and her younger sister Ramona became a part of Frannie and George William Thompson’s family. Among the youngest of the seven Thompson children, Myrtle loved the great outdoors, and spent hours exploring her beloved Pennsylvania countryside. More >>
